Spinodal Decomposition in Natural Bornite–Chalcopyrite Intergrowths: A Way of Cu-(Fe)-Sulfide Mineral Growth

نویسندگان

چکیده

Spinodal decomposition is an important mechanism of exsolution. However, spinodal has not been observed in natural sulfide intergrowths. We utilized focused ion beam (FIB) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques to confirm intergrowths (chalcopyrite bornite). According FIB TEM analyses, occurred as small curving alternating dark bright fluctuations bornite–chalcopyrite Due the low temperature that drove exsolution mechanism, ~10 nm wide 20–200 long contained non-stoichiometric tetragonal bornite chalcopyrite. The corresponding diffraction displayed a satellite spot [−210] direction for bornite, (200)* (224)* chalcopyrite paralleled (24−2)* (242)* respectively. These observations all agreed with decomposition, two coexisting phases formed crystallographic orientation relationship, which indicated first observation findings confirmed crystal growth. As larger extent faster than nucleation growth, other Cu ore deposits may also form via this mechanism.

Strain Energy Effects in the Spinodal Decomposition of Cu-Ni(Fe) Nanolaminate Coatings

A model for spinodal decomposition must account for interface effects that include gradient and strain energy terms. The measurement of diffusion in the Cu-Ni(Fe) alloy for the special case of nanolaminate structured coatings is considered wherein the composition fluctuation is one-dimensional along <111>. An analytic approach is taken to model the kinetics of the transformation process that pr...

Programs for the calculation of the spinodal decomposition growth rate and the spinodal gap in nanoparticles

This data article contains the programs for the calculation of the spinodal decomposition growth rate and for the modeling of the spinodal gap and concentration profiles in nanoparticles which were used in our article (Pogorelov et al., 2017) [1]. The modeling is based on the mathematical model of spinodal phase decomposition with intercalation rate conditions on the boundaries (Singh et al., 2...

Freezing of Spinodal Decomposition by Irreversible Chemical Growth Reactions

We present a description of the freezing of spinodal decomposition in systems, which contain simultaneous irreversible chemical reactions, in the hydrodynamic limit approximation. From own results we conclude, that the chemical reaction leads to an onset of spinodal decomposition also in the case of an initial system which is completely miscible and can lead to an extreme retardation of the dyn...

Parallel Spinodal Decomposition

Spinodal decomposition encompasses the ordering dynamics of thermodynamically unstable phases. An example of spinodal decomposition is the separation of the metals in a binary alloy. Because physicists have been unable to develop a fully coherent, consistent , and calculable theory on spinodal decomposition, computational studies have served as valuable sources of information. However, since th...
